Introduction
KÖTIVIZIG is a public body responsible for general water management in the Middle Tisza District in Hungary, with an operational area of 7,200 km2. Among other tasks, KÖTIVIZIG is responsible for flood protection, irrigation, inland excess water protection, water quality, maintenance of channels, rivers, dikes and water management facilities and the operation of Lake Tisza (Kisköre-reservoir). The organization supervises its territory's facilities and sewage water treatment plants, prepares maps and planning measures, and its laboratory carries out constant monitoring activities. In the operational area of the KÖTIVZIG, the agricultural water supply for water facilities, canals, irrigation, rice farms, fishponds, reservoirs, backwaters, fishing lakes, etc., is provided through 964 348 rm of the canal network, covering a total net area of 211 481 ha and coordinates water management actions to cover the irrigation needs of farmers.
Roles
As a Water Directorate, KÖTIVIZIG provides the opportunity for the BioTreatED project to establish a relationship between decision-makers and end users (as it was in previous international projects such as the Danube Floodplain, JoinTisza, or IDES) and contribute with its expertise in surface water monitoring to further strengthen the link between the project and aquatic ecosystem services.
