Introduction
Dokuz Eylül University has a long and proud history of being a hub of research and education in Turkey, particularly in the Aegean Region since its foundation in 1982. It is one of the largest universities of Turkey with 55,264 students from all over Turkey and 5094 foreign students from 102 countries. The university has 18 faculties involving the fields maritime, education, literature, science, fine arts, nursing, law, economics and administrative sciences, theology, business, architecture, engineering, medicine, veterinary, dentistry, tourism, sports sciences, phisical therapy and rehabilitation, 10 graduate schools and institutes, 1 conservatory, 2 schools, 6 vocational schools and 38 research and application centers. Dokuz Eylül University offers a lively scientific milieu with a total number of 2805 academic staff. Dokuz Eylul University is designated as a “research university”, a status awarded by the Higher Education Council of Turkiye to the best-performing twenty universities in the country. The institution leads and participates in 19 international and European research projects.
Roles
DEU's project tasks will be carried out by the Environmental Modeling and Hydroinformatics Lab, with strong expertise in the development and application of local to regional-scale groundwater flow and contaminant transport models, watershed models, hydrological/hydrogeological and geochemical characterization of aquifers and river basins, and multi-criteria decision making for water resources management. DEU's main role is to develop a reactive contaminant transport model that can simulate the infiltration and leaching of the bio-treated manure in the subsurface.
Expertise:
- Environmental modeling with emphasis on surface water and groundwater quality and fate and transport of nutrients and other specific pollutants
- Numerical groundwater flow modeling
- River basin management studies
- Hydrological modeling
- Integration of earth-observation data in the characterization of water bodies
- Developing simulation-optimization approaches
