Educational school programme supported by BioTreatED

On 28 May and 10 June 2026, members of the Institute of Aquaculture and Environmental Safety at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE) visited Dányi Széchenyi István Primary School, where, with the support of the BioTreatED project, they organised an interactive educational programme for primary school students.

During the programme, the children were introduced in a fun and accessible way to the invisible world of microorganisms, the importance of environmental protection and environmental hygiene, as well as the fascinating diversity of fish and aquatic ecosystems.

The educational programme is closely aligned with the objectives of the BioTreatED project, which focuses on protecting water quality, reducing environmental risks, and developing sustainable, bio-based solutions. An important part of the project is sharing scientific knowledge and strengthening environmental awareness among different groups of society, including younger generations.

The students were also able to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice through a creative drawing competition. The theme of the competition was the protection of our waters and the reduction of waste, giving the children an opportunity to express, through their own ideas and artwork, what we can do to protect our environment.

The school also received educational board games and separate waste collection bins, which support the development of environmentally conscious thinking and responsible waste management habits in everyday school life in a playful and practical way.

The initiative provides a good example of how research, science communication, environmental education and social responsibility can be brought together, while helping children experience the importance of protecting our waters and the environment in an engaging and memorable way.
